Pricey, but it would be nice to have this radio tank, the Sony Earth Orbiter, if you have a place to put it. I've never tested one but hear its outstanding on AM and FM bands.

I've have one, but it's been at my radio repair man's shop since I got it... It only plays on FM. But the sound is very good. The other issue with these is the dial warps bad, I guess. The one on this is. At some point we will take it out and try to straighten it. Basically, its a like a clone of the Zenith TO-7000 that may be just a hair better in some areas. I'll let you know more if I ever get it back from repair.

$250? Yikes! I just recently bought a Sony CRF-5100 Earth Orbiter (exactly the same radio with one additional band) in nearly perfect cosmetic and working condition for $50. Either I got an amazing deal or that one on eBay is seriously overpriced.
The Earth Orbiter is a nice radio. It was a CRF-5090 that got me interested in radio as a hobby back in 1975. I bought this CRF-5100 last month because I was nostalgic for the old thing. Of course, you can get lots of radios today that perform better but it was a a great radio to start DXing with.

I own a crf 5090 and was given it from a job I done . When I turn the dial only am worked . I then took off the back and cleaned it around the entena and the inside of the dial and it was good. Fm works now and you hear noises from the other ones but I don't no if the police and fire and all the other ones are suppose to work . All in all the fm and am put out a great sound . Nice n clear along with loud . Sweet old school looking radio $200 if you wanna buy it from me.

That is too much. I have a 5100 I paid about 60 bucks, all bands work but the dial is warped. It's a very good AM performer. I believe i reviewed it on here a year or two ago.
