I can feel Karl's pain on this one:
I think most people would look at you blankly if you explained you spent $150 for a CCRADIO to get a specific AM station better in your office. I know I have gotten the look.

I hear ya. It's the same look I get when I tell people I'm an audiophile who pays more than a couple grand for a stereo system. Isn't a 200-buck ipod good enough?!?

I think I will get "the look" less often if I can make sure two boxes of yard sale or Goodwill donations leave the house for every antique radio that comes in.
I got the bug a couple of months ago when I was foolishly cruising EBay. There sat my grandma's old Zenith. I tried to buy it but was foiled by an out-of-date PayPal account and a thoroughly mixed-up EBay account with someone else's address and password on my old e-mail account. By the time it was straightened out, the radio auction was over, but I have learned that them made millions, so another one will come up.
Now I am into 50's clock radios, which makes no sense, as I never liked to get up. The case design just sucks me in. I only have one, but in less than an hour I'll learn whether I got the other one I wanted from "EvilBay". And I am coveting a serious Telefunken or Blaupunkt tabletop, too.
I'll have to find someone who wants my solid state Panasonic clock radios and my RCA 1960's am-fm walnut case tabletop, because I am determined not be be swamped by mere collecting as opposed to curating.
But "the look" is just part of marriage. Try admitting that you have four receivers in the garden shed or four electric drills or a backup for your spare shovel.

It's the same look I get when I reluctantly explain to someone that the 5/8 wave antenna on my trunk isn't for CB, but rather ham radio. I basically say "I know, I'm a geek".

I've gotten 'the look' from people in my own house....LOL. But you know, last week when I picked up a vintage (near-apex performing) Realistic radio from a local thrift shop for a whopping $3, the looks don't seem to bother me so much. Funny how that happens.

The Look lands you somewhere between Heretic and Pariah. Sometimes it goes straight to Leper.
