I remember that RS TRF----the general manager of the little AM station I worked for in Illinois used one of these to monitor other stations.
But, you might be interested in an AM tuner that I owned at one time, the McKay Dymek AM 5 with its companion loop antenna the DA 5. Two bandwidths, very good sensitivity and very nice sound. link is here

One radio station I worked for in New York state used one of these as their studio monitor. The design of the tuner is all analog---no digital hash--but I can heartily recommend it!
