Few days ago I received Sony ICR-S71 the best gift from my wife. Long story short: Only AM(MW) no phone plug, water proof build like tank( very small tank) .
It is about size of two Sony ICF-S10MK2 put side by side. Radio has excellent reception and enjoyable sound from speaker. Sony makes special paper speaker, made for those who like old tube radio sound.
There are Two D Alkaline batteries approximately 400-500 hours of work. Sony ICR-S71made in Japan and has been in the market for over 25 years.
Love this radio! It is definitely hi performance receiver unique in own class.
Happy New Year!

Pricey at $140.00----but I love the fact that it seems like a throwback to a "better" era. A radio like this will last a lifetime.

Vimal: You are absolutely right. It works in North America. I am testing this receiver side by side with Ex5mk2 and super radio II. After a while I will send update, but so far I’m pleased and very impressed from ICR-S71.

I have been playing around with one of these for a few months. The selectivity is amazing. A few weeks ago, during the hour after sundown in southwestern Michigan, I was able to clearly pick out a station on almost every frequency on the lower half of the dial (didn't have time for the upper half). Stations from Canada, the Midwest, NY/NJ, and the South were quite readable, even through strong local interference.

Doug: side by side Ex5mk2 with ICR-S71received a same stations in my apartment. Different is ICR-S71has absolute null perfectly combine with speaker sound. Sometimes I confused: quality of reception distance stations- like local!

Hello all. Just had a friend of mine pick up one of these in Osaka, Japan. Fantastic little AM only radio. Very sensitive and selective. Uses 2 D batteries (Came in package w/ radio). Should last a long time. Nice sounding speaker.

I will be getting one of these!! Val - does this radio have a slot for headphone and/or AC Adapter on either side? I'm looking forward to your comparisons with the ICF-EX5 MKII.

It has an adapter plug, but unfortunately, no headphone jack.

Too bad. I'm wondering if one might be able to take off the back, remove the DC jack & replace it with a headphone jack wired to the speaker? No holes to drill....Hmmm....seems more useful for a radio like this to be headphone compatible vs. AC compatible. I want one!
