I keep hearing great things about Katherine Boo's Behind the Beautiful Forevers, also discussed today on Madeleine Brand.
In the interview, Boo said she wanted to capture the extremes of the rich and poor in the India, the "lopsided cosmos."

I found this interesting in light of your Apple posts:
