I haven't been excited about any new radio products for a long while, but I am eager to get the Sangean WR-12, nonbluetooth version for $169 scheduled for October; bluetooth version for $229 scheduled for November.
Getting excellent performance from the Sangean WR-2, digital, and the WR-11, analog, I expect the WR-12 to be at least as good as those radios in terms of FM and AM reception. I'm expecting of course greater speaker sound from the WR-12. We shall see.
Yesterday I posted a new study about lower IQ for teens who engage in heavy pot smoking. What about parents. Since becoming a father of twins two and a half years ago, I notice my logic and memory are way down. I am in fact dumber.
I emailed Sangean to see if the WR-12 had Bluetooth or not and they emailed the following back to me:
Thanks for your inquiry and being a Sangean loyal
Yes, there will be two versions of WR-12. WR-12 is without
Bluetooth and WR-12BT with Bluetooth.
These two radios will have the best audio in their size, with
2.1 stereo system built in.
WR-12 will be here first in October and WR-12BT, one month
So it looks like we have to wait
longer, but I think adding Bluetooth is a smart move. Most people I
know carry around their mp3 collections or use streaming music services
from Bluetooth enabled smart phones these days because it's easier to
have just one device (even if the DAC's aren't as good). There are a ton
of Bluetooth speakers out there, but none of them are going to have the
warm sound of the Sangean wood radios and not be expensive. For me this
will be the perfect work radio since I can hook up the Aux-In to my
computer, use the Bluetooth with my mp3 player (or phone), and still
listen to UW Husky games on the AM or KEXP 90.3 on the FM.
