This is my third BAHD, having returned them to Boston Acoustics for fizzled AM. Yes, this third one still works on AM but a year ago presets 3 and 4 stopped working.
And then yesterday preset 2 stopped working. And worse, once turned on, it wouldn't turn off. I had to unplug it to turn it off.
No way. In spite of its great speaker sound, I officially retired it and won't be buying a Horizon Duo or Solo.
I can't afford to maintain a BMW. Nor can I maintain a Boston Acoustics radio.
Actually, I'm not sure the BMW analogy is a good one. I have a 1993 3 series (bought new by my late wife, long before we even met). My BMW has been very reliable----I get the oil changed once a year (synthetic) and keep up with coolant changes---and haven't had many problems at all. Only one expensive problem in the last 10 years that I can remember. I think BMWs work well. MAINTENANCE can be expensive, but I don't think they are money pits for repairs. A better comparison might be older Jaguars----which are in the shop more than they're in your driveway. As for the Boston Acustics radios----totally unacceptable, ridiculous----deal breaker. I wouldn't put up with that if I were buying a $20.00 Emerson. In fact, I have a $20.00 Emerson----my famous "bathroom radio" and it's doing great----used almost every day for a few years now.

Some BMW years, like 93, are better than others, to be sure, but I have no doubt that a BMW in general will cost over 300 percent to maintain than my Maxima.

You might be right, but then again it also depends how long you plan to keep the car. BMW was offering free scheduled maintenance for the first 3 or 4 years-----probably through the warranty period. I think BMW maintenance gets pricey----things like brakes (rotors and other parts) can give you sticker shock exceeding the sticker shock of the car itself! A contractor working at my house building a sunroom----has an older 3 series too. I think his is a '96 and he has around 240,000 miles on it and says it's running well, no big issues. No doubt though that your Maxima is probably a more trouble-free car and also less to maintain. Also, unlike Camry and Accord----the Maxima gives you some of the driving thrills of a BMW. For me, the true essence of BMW is the 3 series. If I want a bigger luxury car, I think there are better options than BMW. But for a smaller luxury car that behaves like a sports car, the 3 series is remarkable.

Don't get me wrong. I love the look of the 1,3, and 5 series and if I could afford to lease with free maintenance . . .

I'll take it off your hands if your are just going to retire it to the dust heap....

It seems that your radio is suffering from dirty contacts in its presets switches which is very easy to fix but... too bad you don´t like to disassemble your own radios which IMHO it´s most funny part in owning a radio.

I love my Receptor. It seems better built.

I think I'm giving the BAHD to my friend who will use it exclusively as an iPod speaker.

My 3rd BA Duo is still going strong. The first two had the AM frying problem too.
