My old Baygen "Freeplay" (manufactured in South Africa) doesn't have ports to recharge electronics----but it does have the solar panel, flashlight and hand crank as well as the shortwave band----performs great and appears to be significantly more robust than this new radio. That said, I'm happy to see the Sony name on a new radio product.

How's AM/FM/SW reception on the Baygem?

Paul: The reception is respectable, but not stellar. Let's put it this way: It's no Panasonic 2200, but it's much better than many of the radios coming out of China today. I can receive all of my local signals loud and clear----on both AM and FM. AM DXing is intermediate capability. SW does a good job with the strongest broadcasts, average with the next level and not soo good with the weaker signals.

The non-solar model ICF-B08 used to be offered in the US not too long ago (around 2008). They discontinued it before I could get my hands on one. Later, I came to know that they were cleared out for $10 in stores like toysRus! I will always regret not getting one. Currently it can be obtained via ebay from Japan but the price is about $80.
I think the orange version is really beautiful. Hope they re-introduce these hand crank models in the US.

About ten years ago Sony sold a very similar radio as the so-called new radio sold today
