I better start keeping a directory for watch repair in case my local people can't do it.
I've read good things about
International Watch Works
Seiko USA Service Center
Motor City Watch Works
And don't forget your local Time Masters on 3131 Artesia Blvd. Go from 10-2. 310 324-86-92

I really hate the idea of putting an expensive watch in a box and mailing it to a company I found on the internet. Something about that scares the hell out of me. Handing it to someone you've met at a brick and mortar shop in town seems safer. Sure---THEY might just send it somewhere and mark up the repair----but at least you have a person in the middle who is responsible for your watch, or at least should be.

Angelo, I agree, but some watch stores send your watch out anyway. I hear of watches returning scraped up. It's vital to have a watch repair person whom you can trust.

Seiko scratched the dial of my watch when I sent it to their New Jersey repair center. As you can imagine, I wasn't too happy.

A local dealer scratched my colleague's Omega. Stressful to consider these scenarios.

This is one reason I like solar watches, because they shouldn't require any service for many years. There is less chance for them to be damaged or to lose their water resistance by the case back being opened every few years.
