Jay Allen always comments on the length of the ferrite rods in his reviews, but forgot to mention anything about the Tecsun's ferrite rod and none of the photos posted of the radio shows it ??

Go the 909X, great all purpose radio, a little deaf on SW, but really comes alive with a reasonable aerial. FM is great. Great ergonomics, well built, looks great sounds great.
I think it is now discontinued, I purchased mine from Keith Perron of PCJ. Not sure if he is still an agent, worth asking though as the price was unbeatable.
Best of luck!!

Last I checked, Amazon sells the 909x. I ended up getting a Degen 1103 DSP because my 12-year-old Degen died and I want to compare FM reception between the old and the new. Eventually, I may get the 909X and the PL-880.

Haven’t been here in a good long while. Just came to wish you a happy birthday, Jeff!

Tim

Sangean USA still lists the 909x as being in production. It isn't on its "Discontinued" page either.

Thanks, Ed.

Angelo

What did you last purchase, a new watch or a new radio?

herculodge

A few weeks ago, I bought a Seiko Monster SZSC003. About six months ago, I bought a Degen 1103 DSP version 2 radio. I prefer the first version, which died after 14 years.

Angelo

I just looked up that Seiko model #. It says third generation. But it looks like the indicies have gone back to the ones I like---not triangles all the way around, but ones like the first generation? Is this a newer model or older?

The Professor

For how many months has this been your latest radio post?

Angelo

TOO many months! WE WANT WATCHES. WE WANT RADIOS. WE WANT THEM NOW, HERC!!!

Jeffrey McMahon

Angelo, Professor, I did 6 months ago buy a Degen 1103 DSP, which I like less than the original (mine died). The DSP 1103 has good FM but has a different personality than the old one. I would like to review the Tecsun S-8800, but it's overpriced at $300. I should at least do an 1103 DSP review soon. You guys persuaded me. I'm not even on Facebook anymore. I should have time.

The Professor

Wow. No new radio posts on this blog for over six months?? I know a lot of radio wise folks read this thing. I'd hoped there'd be more action in this regard here.

The Professor

Sorry to slag you dude. Just sayin' I used to check in here fairly often for some radio info and gossip, and lately... crickets.

I do think it's sad they stopped making the old 1103. It was kind of a revolutionary radio a while back.

Keith Beesley

Jeff's interest in radios may have waned, but I still visit here to read old articles I missed the first time around, re-read others, and view new comments. Worth checking back from time to time.
