Topic: The Value of Cyber Communities
Thesis:
While I acknowledge that cyber communities attempt to fill a void, they are in fact an inferior substitute to real communities because ___________________________, ______________________________, _____________________________________, and ____________________________________.
Topic: The Value of Blogs
While most blogs are narcissistic brain belches of self-reflection and triviality, there are enough good blogs that can be defended on the basis of _________________________________, _____________________________________, ________________________________, ________________________________________, and __________________________________________.
1. Blogs can attract support groups who may suffer the same disease or illness, physical or mental.
2. Blogs can provide a center for information on a specific topic.
3. Blogs can provide a counterpoint or a contrarian point of view to the mainstream media.
4. Blogs can provide anonymity so that dangerous truths can be exposed while protecting the identity and safety of the blogger.
Topic: The danger of using multiple identities
1. Fraud is conscious intent to deceive another person.
2. Fake can be a sincere belief in one's contrived Internet persona, which can become an addiction and dependence.
3. All these contrived identities cause us to either forget our core self or to fail to develop a core self.
4. As a society we become more superficial because all of us collectively prefer the fake self that creates the "Wow Factor" over the down-to-earth personality. We all have to compete against Tila Tequila, for example.
Against Cyberspace
While the cyberspace seduces us with its promise of Unlimited Possibilities, we must be warned of its dehumanizing and debasing effects evidenced by its tendency to degrade love into a form of shopping for partners; to turn love into a narrowly focused electronic relationship absent the full human experience of the five senses; a form of self-aggrandizement in which we create a misleading self-portrait; and a contrivance of false euphoria that will surely crash into despair and disappointment.
