Reality TV is the final bastion of the scoundrel. That
selfish lout who fuels their life on voyeurism . These voyeurs, addicts of “American
Idol,” “Survivor,” and other expressions of reptilian competitiveness, do
nothing to elevate the human spirit, instead; they promulgate the most hateful
brand of Darwinism as Francine Prose so rightly observes these depraved TV
shows make Darwin’s "The Origin of Species" look rather benign, in spite of the
sheer depravity so unabashedly vented in these sick programs; they are enjoying
a feverish, ever-increasing popularity.
Evidencing that the human appetite for cruelty and schadenfreude are boundless and are inevitably
fated to seek out new manifestations of ruthless ambition. As if these
malignant forms somehow affirmed our own ruthlessness. Sadly, to watch reality
TV is to loose one’s humanity as we let loose the demons roiling inside our
souls. Let us not fuel our prurient appetites for scandal and skullduggery, let
us instead focus on substantive issues like health care, global warming, and
the unsightly proliferation of all-you-can-eat buffets that are littering are
great country.
