Fall 2013 English 1C SLO Assessment Process
1. Pick up the SLO assessment packet in mailboxes. This packet will include:
a. Revised SLOs (see below)
b. SLO Checklist for a 25% random sampling of assessment tool, the essay (approx. 5-7 essays per section)
c. Datasheet
d. Envelope
Ask students to submit two copies of the essay, or you can randomly select 25% and make the extra copies yourself. One copy is to grade and return to the student; the other copy is to return to the division office with the SLO checklist attached.
2. Once the essays have been collected from students, randomly select 25% of them and staple an SLO Checklist to each.
3. Fill out each SLO Checklist (acceptable/unacceptable) for each of the 25% randomly selected essays.
4. Fill out the SLO Datasheet.
5. Put the essays (with SLO checklists attached) and Datasheet back into the envelope and send to the Humanities Division Office by December 20.
Revised English 1C SLOs (fall 2013)
Upon completion of English 1C, students will:
1. Students will compose an argumentative essay that shows an ability to support a claim using analysis, elements of argumentation, and integration of primary and secondary sources.
2. This argument will also reflect students’ ability to identify and assess bias, credibility, and relevance in their own arguments and in the arguments of others, including primary and secondary outside sources.
3. The essay will be well organized in proper MLA format and will also be technically correct in paragraph composition, sentence structure, grammar, spelling, and usage.
