Yes, the headphones are crap on the Sony SRF-59. I use Koss PortaPro headphones, a great value.

The reason many people prefer the SRF-59 is PERFORMANCE. You'll pay a price in poor performance for the convenience of presets, digital display, and so on.

BTW, the Sangean DT-200VX is also highly rated by hardcore AM listeners, I carry a DT-200VX pocket radio in my every day carry bag.

Tom, I have a Sangean DT 180. I use V-Moda buds, a gift. Pretty good but I get Tv interference on weak FM stations. Jeff

The Sangean DT 180 is a poor peformer, from most of the reviews I've read.
