The newer versions of the Sangean WR-2 appear to have superior FM to the older models that were released in 2005. My new model gets 89.3 KPCC, for example, without the static my old model used to get. However, with my JBuds or any ear buds there is a discernible hiss, which has compelled me to use my WR-2, with its remote control, as my new computer room radio. About 6 feet from my computer, my WR-2 works great. Being able to play the WR-2 at a higher volume than I can when it's by my bedside, I have a far greater appreciation and enjoyment of its war, refined speaker. The sound is far better than my Eton Sound 100, which I'm trying to get rid of. Also, the radio's smoothness and refinements seem more evident using the remote in my office and observing the radio's characteristics from a 6-feet distance.
It amazes me that I've always been lukewarm about my WR-2 and then by moving it into my office its positive characteristics became so much more apparent that it was like getting a brand new radio all over again.
In my bedroom now is one of my 2 Boston Acoustics Horizon Solos (the other one is in the exercise room). While many are complaining of bugs, especially on sleep and alarm function, the Solo does not make a great clock radio for most, but rather makes a good general table radio. Since I don't use sleep or alarm functions, the Solo's weaknesses are not a real issue for me.
