Herculodge,
I will take this opportunity to provide my feedback on Sangean PR-D5 (as i have just received it past week). And BTW, I cannot speak for the C. Crane CSW at all (although can provide my opinion solely on the PR-D5 and who will find it attractive and fits their needs).
First off... my priorities are primarily sound quality and FM reception. I already have a pocket size Sangean (DT-210) that I have owned for years and absolutely love it! The FM reception for this small pocket radio is very impressive. Probably not much different at all in reception performance than the latest Sangean DT-400W (which has weather band to replace TV sound).
Anyways... the Sangean PR-D5 is very impressive for FM sound and reception performance. I live in Western New York and I clearly pick up all the area stations plus those north of the border (Toronto, St Catherines, Hamilton, Niagara Falls) up to 80 miles away. So good that the RDS (which needs solid reception to kick in for stations provided it) comes in on all of them (north of the border stations included). For that alone... this is a keeper!
I like the 5 station presets... I wish there were more. However, the rotary dial to manually scan easily up & down the dial is a nice feature (much better over push button scan option to go up & down the dial).
The sound quality is quite impressive for such a small portable unit. And although it doesn't have bass/treble tone controls, Sangean did a very nice job balancing that tone out to effectively bring out the highs and lows respectfully for the dual size of those speakers.
If you're a big fan of FM radio, want good sound, and are quite picky for receiving solid FM reception from fringe locations (i.e. want it to be as good as the best reception car radios)... then this is the portable unit for you. You cannot go wrong with the Sangean PR-D5.
Sangean's outstanding reputation for FM reception performance on their portable units, comes through again.
I am very excited about this purchase. A very reasonable price point for how it performs.
Thanks to Mike F., from New York for his feeback on the Sangean PR-D5.
other than lack of tone controls, has hereculodge recieved any negative feedback about the pr-d5?

Yes, Ed, who lives 2 miles from me, gets AM overload and says he needs an AM filter. That's why he prefers the C.Crane CSW.
