A Herculodge reader with 25 years of vintage radio experience has recommended the Sony 5500, which is selling today on eBay.
I'm tempted to get it but I'm bidding on 4 radios and another is on the way, so I'm a bit overwhelmed.

believe it or not jeff, the sony 5500 was the first vintage radio i bought. at the time (1983), it was actually only 10 years old! i had the version that had shortwave. i have this one as well. it has fm/am/pbs bands.it appears this one has missing antenna tip. great little dxer.and as always with sony, great audio.

Believe me, I was tempted, but I've got some bids going on, I'm re-installing my Apple because it went on the fritz and I'm using my wife's computer today. Things are overwhelming.
I put a bid on a vintage Sony with stereo speakers. I forget the name. I'll tell you later after I fix my computer.

ICF-5500W
The Sony ICF-5500W tunes the FM, PSB (communications), and AM radio bands. It has controls for squelch and AFC, along with bass and treble. These controls are located on the top and front.
#1 radio!!!!
