Joining in the defense of SW radio, one reader writes that some of the preachers lull him to sleep better than a cocktail of Nyquil and Sominex:
I'm relatively new to shortwave, bought a grundig s-800 in feb and then recently bought a ccrane. but here's what i like about it: 1.) hearing broadcasts from other countries 2.) listening to the "hour of slack" which is on at 11 ET sunday nights on wbcq the planet (7415), that is some strange stuff...3.) getting completely knocked unconscious by listening to some of the preachers late at night across the US... Nothing, and I repeat nothing gets me to sleep faster than finding the right tone and intonation of preaching on sw radio... Also, there is some interesting viewpoints out there on SW that you won't hear anywhere else, and by interesting I mean completely unhinged from reality.
What a coincidence, I did the same thing. I would listen to some preacher named Armstong and "The World of Tomorrow" to beat insomnia, but he was on AM radio.

The preacher's somnambulistic cadences never fail.

The best cure for insomnia is what I do - allow your body to follow its circadian rhythm and have a 25 hour day
Does fact that humans are designed for a longer day than the Earth has suggest we are from a different planet?

I guess once we find a planet with a 25-hour day, we may be able to see if it feels that much better. ;-)
Meanwhile, I find that having a number of kids is a good way to avoid insomnia. But I'll keep the preacher tip for when the kids are gone.
