Overall, I've been happy with my $19.95 JBuds, which have served me well as I kept them in my ears every night, all night, for the last year and a half. This morning I noticed the right earbud requires jostling to get the sound; otherwise, it's dead silent.
I don't know if this "short" in one bud or headphone is inevitable, a sign of natural wear and tear, or if it's a feature that afflicts cheaper made earbuds.
I will replace the JBuds with $29.99
V-Modas, which offer slightly better fidelity but are slightly less soft and comfortable.
But the V-Modas may share the same fate as the JBuds because, as Ed Strnad writes:
Every heaphone, earbud, I've ever used on an almost daily basis has eventually failed in one or later both earpieces. It's due to the thin wires and connections breaking--from the wires being PULLED or TUGGED during sleep. (I wear earphones all night too, I roll around and wind up pulling them out of my ears.) Cost doesn't really seem to be a factor--I've had cheapies last a long time, and expensive ones quit very early. So you might as well get the cheapest that you like the fit and sound of. They all fail eventually if they get any use.
