One of my favorite nonfiction writers, Malcolm Gladwell, his work often featured in The New Yorker, has a new book, The Outliers: The Story of Success, coming out on November 18. Gladwell's book will purportedly give us a novel look at what makes people successful by looking at their family and cultural background. While the subject matter sounds familiar on a first glance, my hunch is that Gladwell is too brilliant to make the subject seem trite. He has probably found some new angle on success that will make his subject fascinating. My hunch is supported by the title based on the word outlier, which means data that is distant or apart from conventional data.
