I won a bid on a Panasonic RF-877, a very manly, rugged radio that sates my appetite that had been piqued by the mediocre Grundig Satellit 750. I won the 877 for a bid of $62, far lower than I thought, so I'm surprised. I think the missing antenna tip must have kept the price down, but I doubt the FM will be compromised by a missing tip. We shall see.

Nice. The dial looks like it controls when the depth charge goes off.

Did anybody watch the debate?
Im ready for Joe Biden to be president. He stronger on everything than Sarah and he's a much better pick than those other two hambones

All Conservatives can stop holding their breaths now. Palin didn't fall on the floor, drooling, so I guess they'll say she won!

Uh-oh. The debate. Just turned off the TV and started listening to it on my new-acquired Eton E10.
Listen, she's not a bad person and there's no reason to hate her. She'd make a fine mayor of, say, Bismarck, ND. Governor of a state is a bit of a stretch. The fact that she's being put forward for an office a heartbeat (an old heart at that) away from being commander-in-chief at a time when we've got two wars on, Pakistan on the back burner, a housing collapse, a stockmarket collapse, are plummeting towards recession, and god-knows-what-else makes me question whether we're capable of governing ourselves at all anymore.

I can't stomach the folksiness.

Ive got an E-10. I compared it to at least six other SW radios
that I bought and returned. It sounded the best. A wise purchase indeed.
But as far as Sarah goes, I like her, she seems sincere.
But Biden is a sr. statesman and no amount of perkiness on Sarahs part can compete with that.
Again I like her but I expected her to say gosh darn it and pull out a bag of choclate chip cookies.
If Biden can control Obama the way Cheney controls W Im in for Obama.

It's like she's channeling Frances McDormand's character from "Fargo"

Thanks for the comment on the E-10, I picked it up for $20.50 and was assuming I'd replace it with an ICF-SW7600GR after a month or two, but I suspect I'd prefer the audio in the E-10. The mutts you pick up cheaply don't raise your expectations as much and you wind up happier with them sometimes. An E1 would probably drive me nuts.

Mike, you're probably right about the sound on the E10 being better than the Sony.
I had a Sony ICF-35, which was one of the worst speakers I've ever heard. It was an insult. Stay with the E-10.
I have an E-10 and find the FM reception less than great. My Grundig G4000 and Kaito 1103 beat it.

This one's a must see - from last year, a comic sketch on the financial collapse:

Now I really don't know how the markets work.
Thanks, Paul, for the heads-up on the RF-877.

Look forward to the review (of the RF-877).

Palen is the only one running for Prez or VP that has actually run something (not counting "running your mouth" which Biden and Obama are prolific at). She's run a state government---budgeting, being "in charge" as opposed to mocking and second guessing those in charge by being in the Senate or Congress. Also, Biden's skin and fake teeth look too much like George Hamilton for my liking.

I just heard the Botox criticism on KCRW's Left, Right and Center, regarding Biden's George Hamilton look.
