Another manly radio: ebay item 320322005251. This radio was actually produced by Hitachi, as the Hitachi KH-2200

I have a similar RF-2600. It's not the equal of the 2200. I think you are just seeing a typical bidding war between two hard-headed ebayers. It happens a lot.

Yeah, it's an ego thing. The price goes beyond the value but the buyers say, "No one beats me!" Seller wins.

eBay formula banked on human flaws.

Ed

Nothing has any value except what someone thinks it has. If someone really wants a mint RF-2900, they will pay far more than what neutral observers think it is worth.

But when egos emerge, the "value" of the item is not the focus; the focus is the ego's hunger to "win."

Ed

I'm always torn when I sell something on ebay--should I list it at a fixed price, or as an auction item? In my experience,Ii think most ebay buyers prefer the thrill of bidding, and, as you say, "winning." Of course I never mind a bidding war or war of egos when I'm selling something at auction.

Brian (Scooby214)

I usually do a fixed price auction, though I'm usually flipping cell phones. It's easy to know the value of a cell phone, as I usually have common models. I tend to get quick sells this way, as I can sell the phone with an added item, such as a memory card, and make it look attractive.

For me, I'll overspend if it's a radio I really want.
