Bidding for $4.95, this Sharp Portable is intriguing. 9 inches tall, 5.5 inches across and sporting a 36-inch telescopic FM antenna, this portable is said to be "sensitive." I like it, but won't bid on it because it's powered by 4 double A batteries, which is not enough juice for my tastes.

I'm intriqued by the 36" antenna, which is longer than some much larger radios. I can live with the AA batteries, but only 8 transistors?

yeah i noticed. but i have a ten transistor vintage GE that performs well. maybe Ed could enlighten us as how the number and or quality of transistors can affect the dynamic of these old radios. i know old radios, but dont have a clue as to the inner workings. i dont know a esaki diode from a geranium transistor. i just know the look, feel and sound of quality.
