Comparing the way I read books and the way I read my Kindle 2, I notice a huge psychological difference that highlights perhaps the biggest drawback of my Kindle 2: While it's a great device and helps lessen the clutter in my house by virtue of having less paper and glue books lying around, its interface affects me psychologically. Whereas I tend to focus on books I'm currently reading, massaging the words and absorbing the syntax with greater intensity, I tend to breeze or even race through my Kindle books. It's as if I were playing a computer game and feel compelled to race to the finish line as quickly as possible. Of course, this is degradation of the reading experience. I hope to discipline myself out of this bad habit.
