I just bought this radio three days ago. It's a Electrohome Lunchbox. The full name is Electrohome Lunchbox Utility radio model EU155Y Imagine a radio with Tivoli or Boston acoustic sound. Imagine the sensitivity of Sony EX-5 or a CCrane 2. FM Antenna makes stable reception, and you don’t have to relocate telescopic antenna to get better sound. It is handy, has an excellent build quality, loud and water resistant. Yes, it sounds like a dream radio. The Electrohome Lunchbox is not exactly this radio. But it could be if some conditions were met, which I'll get to later. Radio itself builds very well. It is not big for utility radio compare with other utility receivers. It has good worm sound; however, it has less bass than Boston Acoustic. Its big speaker make sound is wide and fills up room easily. If Boston Acoustics loses bass with hi-volume, then Lunchbox is increasing it. FM is good enough to move this radio from place to place without losing signal. Sensitivity on AM is very good. Lunchbox has 10 kHz am step. It is not enough to for serious dxing, but signal is strong and quality of sound makes this enjoyable. Its beat my Boston Receptor easily. It was a surprise for me when I opened this receiver. I see two computer chips, a small 3.5 inch ferrite antenna, a computer jack and wires, speaker and it is was almost everything. Three days have passed and I've brought this radio every day to work. I listen to a few of my favorite stations at night on AM and all day FM. I go to kitchen and I grab this radio and put on the cooler. It doesn’t lose signal and I don’t have to relocate telescopic antenna to make better reception. What could make this radio better? Probably 1 kHz AM step could make utility radio to dxing machine. Input and output could make this radio multifunction as receiver. What I like: simplicity design and sound plus 10 memories. Reception is good on both FM and AM. What I don’t like: $99 retail price. On am if stations powerful and stay near each other on the frequency than existing provability to have overloaded signal. It doesn’t have ears plug. It couldn’t be use like signal amplifier for iPod or computer because it doesn’t have input. But I going to keep this radio in spite of its negative points because I like it anyway and from many radio receivers it is good choice for me. Val http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=14xj4XlfwrE

I had wondered if was it close to to a BAR?
Got to say the guts don't look too impressive but I guess the sum is greater than its parts.

Japanese parts inside (Toshiba microchips), Chinese labor.

That was a good idea to include the picture of the inside of set. It does make the $99 price seem high; what could the cost of production on that radio have been?
The Chinese crank out inexpensive toys with more electronics in them nowadays.

I could be wrong, but this radio appears to be only available in Canada. It's not on Amazon.

'Electrohome' is an old Canadian name that got bought on the cheap in its latter days, as happened with 'Bell & Howell' here in the states.

I suspect the Sangean utility radio is comparable.

Been looking for a table radio for years. I opened the box at CTC just out of curiosity with little hope of finding something more than the gammut of cheap crap radios the shelves are full of. Looked good! Sounded good at home, with better AM reception than most my radios and as good as my $500 Sony. Much better than the BOSCH $229 workshop radio which I tried and was ready to buy from Amazon. Outstanding styling, color and cabinet texture! Heavy duty wire and 3prong plug. Handle on top for moving around, very solid construction! Can even be used with batteries. Big con is no earphone jack or input, I guess you can't have everything. I love this thing, had it for 3 months and just bought a second one. This little "Lunch Box" is a best kept secret. Peter K.
