Hello All,
The ULR Shootout "preseason" is coming to an end, and just like the NFL
team coaches with too many players competing for too few roster spots, it's
time to make the tough choices to select the final team.
Several of these "players" made nice moves in the preseason, but
unfortunately, they all have the same problem which severely limits their ability to
succeed in the regular season-- they are too deaf to hear the real DX.
Accordingly, the following "players" will be cut from the "team" immediately,
due to weak AM sensitivity:
1) Tecsun DR-910
2) Kaito KA-11
3) Degen DE1105
4) Redsun RF1201
5) Kchibo D39L
6) Grundig Mini 300
Two of the above "players" have exceptional FM performance for their size,
however. The Kchibo D39L is an undersized FM powerhouse, combining superb
DSP selectivity with good FM sensitivity. This "player" should quickly find
a roster spot on the FM-DXing team, especially since it is the smallest of
all the current DSP "players." The Degen DE1105 also has excellent FM
performance for its size, and may be a long shot to make the FM team.
So, the final "cut" for the 2009 Ultralight AM Shootout team includes four
new DSP "players," one hot-performing digital "player" from 2008, and two
"bargain" analog wonders providing maximum bang for the buck:
1) Degen DE1123
2) Tecsun PL-300WT (a.k.a. Grundig G8)
3) Kchibo D92L
4) Kchibo D96L
5) C.Crane SWP
6) Tecsun R911 (a.k.a. Kaito WRX911)
7) Tecsun R9012
These final contestants will shoot it out for the top spot in Ultralight
radio DXing glory soon, on a date which should roughly coincide with the
start of the NFL regular season.
73 and Good DX,
Gary DeBock
