Michael gives high praise for his Tecsun PL-300, especially after his upgrade:
is outstanding. I havent really tried any SW yet.
The speaker is small and it has no tone control. I called up Craig over at Kiwa Electronics and sent it to him and he did his audio path upgrade ( like he does for the G-5 ). I just got it back and it sounds incredible now. Fuller, richer sound with none of the harshness or tininess of a small radio.
This is a steal for 50.00 and I heartily recommend Craigs upgrade.
I have bought and sold at least 8 small AM/FM/SW radios in the past 2 years and I can tell you that this is the pick of the litter. This has as good or BETTER AM/FM reception as a Sangean DT200VX.
And thats saying something.
Hey Michael:
Can you give us Kiwa's phone number? Their web site has apparently lapsed, since it redirects elsewhere. Also, what did Craig charge for the mods? I have heard that he does great work.

I have replied to an e-mail he sent me regarding my G-8 requesting his number for you.
I dont have his e-mail address so I can only reply to one he sent me.
Mine was the first G-8 he worked on so he did not charge me anything. Just postage.
He told me the upgrade he did for me was similar to the one he does for the G-5. Thats about $65.00 for the G-5.
Kiwa has a policy that says they will do a free upgrade for any radio they dont already have an upgrade for.
Mine was the guinea pig.

Thanks, Michael. The upgrade is more than the radio, but if the audio perks way up, it may be worth it.

The G8 has such good DX capabilities that I think the upgrade may be worth it. If I hadn't already ordered the Kchibo D96L, I'd send in my G8 for the upgrade.
I remember a few years ago when many people were sending in their S350/BCL2000 radios to Kiwa for filter and audio upgrades. While the G8 will never have the big sound of the S350, it marks a big advancement in selectivity.

I was wrong. The upgrade for the G-5 is $50.00.
I dont know what the G-8 upgrade will cost. As I said, he did mine for free in order to find out what would be the right upgrade for this radio.
It really sounds great now and I would be pleased even if I had paid $50.00.
