With a starting bid of $10, the seller calls this a Sony 13 Transistor and describes it as having a scratchy volume control. This Sony looks like one of the great models, a TFM-1000, considered an apex performer on both FM and AM. Scratchy volume and failure to name this Sony for what it really is, the TFM-1000, makes it a sleeper that could possibly be snatched for a very low price.
the sony above kicks the GE SR1 and is so better built. Tuning is like butter. Honestly the best AM receiver I've tried. Just very basic and boring in ways. My DX 392 is so much more fun but was and I stress "was" way less sensitive, until my very cool mod, which I did promise to write about, because I believe it to be an interesting story, and a confusing one, much like this rambling sentence, but I digress...yes, where was I? Oh yeah, I need to fill you all in on the joys of taking an expensive radio apart and poking around the antenna terminals with a few simple coils of copper wire. so much more effective than trying to build a loop antenna. Until then, savor the suspense...or not.

Oh by the way, the mod now allows me to listen to country music from a station in or near Winnipeg or Brandon Manitoba from my bedside window (concrete and steel building)which is located in Vancouver. For those of you who know where that is, it's pretty good wouldn't you say. Specifically, the station is AM940 (too bad about the country music tho...)

Sorry, going back to the Sony above, first day I bought it, took it our (midday) immediately picked up shortwave off the telescopic and even ham conversation (didn't need BFO switch) They just don't make em like this anymore. Truely fantastic (I'm thinking of proposing to mine tonight...wish me luck) BTW, bidding is up over 90 bucks now with 5 plus days to go! The secrets out baby!

Proposing? Radio lovers cannot be cured indeed! I wish i had a TFM-1000, but my Panny RF-888 is keeping me happy for now.
