I've been hearing a lot of buzz, including a brief note in The New Yorker, about Jason Lanier's manifesto You Are Not a Gadget in which he analyzes the dehumanizes effects of the way we use the web today, including some social networking sites like facebook (which I use from time to time under a false identity).
I think this will be the next book I buy. I'll report on my findings, good or bad, soon.
