Wired News reports that the iPad Tablet ups the game for multi-tasking devices but fails to hit the Kindle where it counts. Why? Because the iPad costs twice as much and doesn't offer free wireless download convenience.

I don't own a kindle---I still read newspapers and magazines, not enough books! Two things strike me about this:
1) Apple is following, not leading.
2) This isn't revolutionary enough to justify the price difference. Kindle owners, rejoice----you still have something new enough and modern enough not to be displaced. Now, if only I could say the same about the Palm Pilots in my house. One is now a toy for my five year old and the other is collecting dust somwhere around here.

Based on the screen size, the iPad competes more closely with the Kindle DX, and it costs about the same.
With the iPad you get a color screen and the ability to run over 100,000 iPhone apps, with upgraded apps for the larger screen no doubt on the way.
