Let's hope they take the time to do it right.

This rumor was around in August of 2009, along with the same photos. No doubt it will just be another Degen/Kaito radio rebranded as a Sangean as they are now these days. The original 909 was made in Taiwan. If Sangean is actually listening, you'll increase sales 10 fold by making the radio in Taiwan instead of China. Even if it adds 50 bucks to the cost.

My thoughts when I first saw these pictures last year was "Oh, it's the same innards with a slightly updated exterior. Not interested."
The 909's display was pretty cool, when it debuted 10-11(?) years ago. Now, it's dated.

The Sangean ATS-909 came out in 1996, at the time I was working for Boeing in Seattle.
Today, the price/performance ratio has changed dramatically for shortwave radios. In addition, the market for world band radios is much smaller, at least in North America, than in 1996 when the ATS 909 first debuted. So, Sangean will need to develop one hell of a radio to justify its high price point.
We did not have a lot of access to the internet in 1996. Sangean's Pro Travel SW radios have pretty much been a failure given the great success of the Degen DE1103 today.
BTW, Sangean has discontinued their ATS-606 radio.

When I learned that Sangean had discontiued its 606 radio, I made a mad dash to try to find another one online. I ended up ordering and receiving two duds, which I'm about to return. I can't find any more 606's. I've got one that's a beautiful silver with a fine speaker tone - a truly high quality very compact radio. Wish I could find another new one.
I'm eagerly awaiting the new 909. The present model is one of my very favorite radios.
