RadioGuy 17 Brings More Translation Info for the Angjan DTS-10

Regarding Kevin's post about the manual for the Anjan DTS-10, RadioGuy 17 writes:

A co-worker did some translation for me from the manual. Looking at the front of the radio the lower 4 knobs are (L-R) Volume or RF Gain control, SSB adjustment, High Frequency adjustment, Low frequency adjustment. So the first know is either a volume or RF gain control, the second appears to be a BFO adjustment, the next two could be tone controls. The two knobs in the middle are (L-R) Narrow Band/Wideband selection, FM,SW,MW,LW band selection

Radio Eye Candy: Brandon's Grundig C-8000 and Philips 704 Boombox

After reading some posts by others on your blog, I took a gamble and recently purchased 2 different German radios (1 from a seller in Germany, one in Austria) on ebay - the Grundig C-8000 and Philips 704 Boombox.  I'll send you reviews later and let you know how smoothly my transactions went.  With the Euro being really weak right now I think I got some good deals, even with expensive shipping included - spent almost exactly $70 each including shipping, and I recently saw a smaller version of that Grundig (I think it was a C-6200) sell for $150 in the states.

Will the Sangean ATS-909X be Released in September of 2010?

Regarding the possible release of the Sangean ATS-909X speculated on another blog, "SW77," an anonymous person writes:

I have several Sangean radios and I think Sangean will launch the ATS 909xr in september, at the IFA Berlin. It´s traditional in Sangean show a lot of new products in two fairs; the CES and the IFA.

Ken's Take of the Silicon Scientific Radio

I have a Silicon Scientific, ordered from Heartland America a couple of years ago for something like $60 including shipping, or about 1/2 the price of the Redsun/CCW equivalent. I'm fine without the presets and I'm very happy with the radio. 

Very good on AM DX, OK on FM, and to me the sound is very good (maybe there are variations in sound quality, some people have complained about the sound). If you find a way to restore the preset function that would be interesting, but I don't think I'm going to try it myself, as I said I'm OK with the way it is and don't want to risk messing up the radio (like I did with my DX440 years ago).

Kevin Finds and Deciphers the Chinese PDF Manual of the Anjan DTS-10

I just found the owner's manual for the DTS-10 at:

It's a RAR file that unzips to a PDF. It's in Chinese, but so far I can tell that the DTS-10 has an mp3 AUX-In, FM stereo through the headphone, wide/narrow bandwidths, and AM and FM antenna jacks. Very small section on SSB, so perhaps only dual-sideband SSB as opposed to sideband-selectable. There is no mention of synch in the manual - there is an "AM Mode" option but it appears to be to select 9 or 19 khz tuning steps.

There are about 60 of the Anjan DTS-10 for sale on Taobao, the Chinese equivalent of Ebay. One can go through a Taobao agent in China such as Obook, which charges a modest fee to receive it from a Chinese seller and then send it to you. I have ordered several things now this way. The Chinese Yuan trades at about 7:1 to the US Dollar, and going with an agent (with fees and extra shipping) means that you generally divide the Taobao asking price by 5 to get the US Dollar end cost. The DTS-10 is going for around 350 Yuan, so one could be had for $70 in about two weeks or so.

Neil Calls His Silicon Scientific the Equivalent of a Redsun RP-2100 Without the Memory Presets

I picked up a silicon scientific #75498 on Ebay recently, and so far like the radio a lot. Basically an RP-2100 without the memories.  I was wondering about something though.  

I remember years ago, when Bearcat and other radio manufacturers made similar versions of the same radio with slightly different feature sets, the boards were essentially the same and the various features could be re-activated on the lesser models by removing or adding wire bridges, and/or diodes.  

I wonder if that is the case with this radio?  I was going to pop it open to look, but stripped one of the screws.  So, after a trip to the HW store for an easyout, I still intent to do this.  I'll let you know, or at least take pictures and maybe your readers can help.  

Product Mix-Up of the Anjan DTS-11 and the DTS-10

While looking over the Anjan site, there is a radio listed as the DTS-11.  No picture for some reason though.  Google translate has trouble with the Anjan pages, but copying and pasting the text in the translator produces the identical description as the DTS-10. Very odd!
