Ferraris for All, a treatise on the advantages of economic growth, by Daniel Ben-Ami, has been praised for its contrarian stand against those who rail against the evils of an expanding economy and its concomitant consumerism. I had always thought economic growth was a good thing. Has my head been in the sand?

Wealth really isn't finite in the true sense of the word. I think the people who hate corporations and consumerism are misguided in that they believe there is one big pie and if someone has too much, it doesn't leave enough for everyone else. In fact, the truth is that not long ago, our nation was more like an oven----if you had ambition and the will to work hard for your dreams, you could bake as many pies as you wanted and so could everyone else. The "ingredients" for the pies are almost unlimited, confined only by one's imagination. Sure, that's an oversimplification, but I still believe that as a nation, we should let freedom and liberty (and the free market) pick the winners and losers. Government should NOT be in the business of confiscatory policy and redistribution of wealth. I don't want Harry Reid deciding on the haves and have nots. Also, for those who rail against the U.S. for only having a small percentage of the world's population but using 20% of the world's energy----get a clue. The growth and prosperity of this nation has done way more good than harm in the developing world.
