Now available on Amazon for $100 with free shipping, the Grundig S450DLX has been purchased by Doug, Ed, and others. Reports of the S450's performance should be coming soon. The radio has a different name, slightly, on the Amazon site but is the same radio.
Two big questions I have about this radio:
One. Can you toggle the presets up and down or just up like the Redsun RP2100?
Two. Is the speaker sound like the Grundig S350 (a good thing) or like the Redsun RP2100 (a bad thing)?

I had a rather interesting reply from Eton about the Grundig S450DLX (I wrote them, asking for the user's manual):
"This radio is not released yet. It will be released sometime next year, but we do not have a specific release date. We cannot release the manual yet, but please watch our web site. Once it's released you'll be able to download one from there."

You'll have to hear it for yourself, Jeff. I though my old Kaito 2100 sounded decent. You couldn't stand yours.

Jeff, I think I've disagreed with you about this before, but I like the sound on my RP2100 a whole lot.
I agree it has an almost completely different sound than the S350 but I like 'em both. The RP2100 has higher highs and a somewhat deeper bass, better for music, while the S350 sounds more melllow and listenable on talk/sports stations.
Both put out a loud enough sound for outdoors or a big room.

I received mine from Universal today, and I have bad news. It appears to have a flaky problem out of the box. Breaks into weird audio distortion, brief oscillation...
I had high expectations, but this reminds me too much of the Kaito 2100. Too bad, the AM section seems extremely sensitive. Damn, wish those far East factories would learn to solder and QC better.

It has the same problem my 2100 had-- the dead FM select switch! Unbelievable! It's going back tomorrow.

Wow---Ed---that is quite a turn of events. I'm starting to feel even better about my C Crane EP! It's not the best radio I've ever played with and it certainly isn't as sophisticated at the Eton 450, but for "Made In China" so far at least, the QC seems to be good.

Sorry to hear about your radio, Ed. Some belated Christmas present!
From above:
"Brand New Field Radio from Eton"...." set to become the new standard in outdoor/field portable radio."
But same old problems as the 4 1/2year old Kaito/Redsun KA/RP2100. Probably same old circuit boards too. And looks like same FM select switch.
How can you call this a new radio? Because it has the Eton name on it now and some controls moved around? Really.

Ed - That's a shame about your S450DLX. If you exchange it, maybe you can have Universal check the replacement before they send it out. I understand that they'll do this if you ask.
