A couple of readers introduced me to the acronym WIS, Watch Idiot Savant, and there are many rather funny distinguishing characteristics of this watch obsessive.
One reason I know I'm probably a WIS: When I getting dressed for work or for a night out, I'll often change watches 3 or 4 times before I'm satisfied with my selection.
Also I have so many watches I don't wear my favorites as often as I'd like and I feel I have "betrayed" them. This same disorder applies to my radio collection.

Jeff is either a SWIS (Supreme Watch Idiot Savant) or a BRIS (Best Radio Idiot Savant) since he went the extra step and started blogging about it!
I rotate radios like Goodyear rotates tires because of this illness. As for watches---I used to be a collector and a couple years ago, sold off many of my best ones. A couple of Jeff's recent aquisitions got me interested in the biggies---and I'm back into watches now. So far, I've managed to be very conservative with how much I've spent, focusing on affordable large watches. But it always starts out that way.

Speaking of which...
E-Bay 220724229137
This looks like a really solid deal. 45MM case diameter might be puny in Herc's world, but it's plenty large for us novices. If your watches are typical mens watches from a few years ago, this is sure to feel large on your wrist. It's a start---then you'll start walking up the ladder to the giants.

Which gets me thinking: what would have been considered a "manly watch" 20 or 25 years ago, when 30mm to 35mm bezels were the norm? I'm not a fan of massive watches (most of my watches are in the 40mm-48mm range), but when try on one of my Dad's old watches, they seem like women's watches in comparison.
