Universal Radio is now advertising that they'll carry the Sangean SR-35 pocket radio for $21.95 as of July 1, 2011. Judging from the image on the website, it seems the frequencies indicated on the face of the radio haven't been adjusted to the American market.

Specs confirm US coverage:

I can't see paying #21.95 for a radio that appears to be about equal to the Sony S10MK2 which currently goes for $9.99 at Amazon.
Comparing the specs, the only difference I can see is that the Sangean has a "softly backlit" dial, which parobably means it will have shorter battery life than the Sony.
I've had my Sony for about 5 years, it's a great little radio for what it does, and I think I still have the original batteries in it. I keep it in the walk-in pantry in our basement (gotta have a radio in every room of course) and as such it gets at least a few minutes of use just about every day, and more when I'm in there stocking the shelves after food shopping.

It has been a while since reading something optimistic about the future of shortwave radio, but this morning I stumbled upon this article:

Made me feel happy:).

Hmmm... I guess I like the analog Prison Radio.
What a concept.

The international broadcasters mentioned in the above article do not target North America, so as far as I'm concern shortwave radio is dead.
And I'm sure the new Sangean SR-35 radio will have a superior build quality and level of performance to the cheap Sony mentioned above.
