I throw away way too much food. I don't know what percentage of the food I buy gets tossed, but I've been hearing from several sources that the average American wastes 40% of his or her food.
Often, I forget about food in the frig and then "discover" it when it's too late. I figure I spend about $10,000 a year on food to feed a family of 4. So I'm throwing away about $4,000 a year. Ouch.
Here are 7 Ways to Waste Less.
This is certainly more difficult when one is sharing refrigerator space with others. The most important point made by the linked article refers to menu planning. We need to provide good necessary nutrition as opposed to dietary limitations. A good place to start is with the book "Eat Right 4 Your Blood Type." Don't go grocery shopping when you are hungry which leads to impulsive purchases.

Hmmmm....the answer is fast food. That's right---I assert that when we order a tasty meal at Five Guys (or even the corporate blutos McDonalds, BK or Wendys) and for those of you on the left coast, In and Out Burger---precious little food is thrown away. I eat the full burger, fries and usually finish my drink. The only thing discarded is wrappers, virtually no food. I've noticed that people don't throw much food away at the fast food places. It's efficient eating and no guilt about waste---maybe just waist.
