Chris

It is the same problem with shortwave broadcast. Internet, satellite can and will fail, or be shut off, compromised, filtered, skewed, ect. You can work the world with a few watts of power, and you will get through- especially using CW. The loss of Maritime CW and other such services is a real disservice. New digital tech may be flashier and easier to sell, but it is inferior. Great article.

Couldnt have said it better myself Chris. I feel the same way with internet based links (Echolink) or SDR ham gear - if the computer fails, or the internet is down, you're screwed. Give me my trusty TS-140s, a dipole and a battery any day and keep your fancy technology. And no I'm not an old-timer...I'm 41.
