Last night Colin and I (we're buddies) watched a great documentary, Catching Hell, about how the town of Chicago almost commited a Medieval execution of Steve Bartman for interfering with a fly ball that would have been caught by Moises Alou. The missed catch seemed to be a catalyst for the Cubs choking and once again being denied a entrance into the World Series.
My wife watched the docuementary and said the same thing Colin said this morning on the radio. But the point was clear: We love a helpless scapegoat to absorb all our life's frustrations. Such an act is primitive and cowardly. The city of Chicago, full of great people, has to deal with that shameful episode.
