Thanks, Frank:
I bought 3 Pl-390 radios. All three broke or started acting strange within 1 month. One stopped turning on after 5 days!

Frank,
Which seller on ebay did you buy these from?

Embarrassed but I actually bought 4! I really wanted one that worked! 2 from Kaito and 2 from Sain Store. All bought fulfilled by Amazon so it was money back no questions asked. BTW, Kaito sent the radio OBVIOUSLY not new. Sain sent NEW radios packaged properly. The whole experience was frustrating. I now listen to SW on my Grundig 6001. Clear perfect audio on SW AM and FM. I can't put it in my pocket but the audio is so worth it!!

Forgot to add 2 of the radios developed "poltergeist" characteristics after a few days. It is well documented if you search forums. It would be such a great little radio if it was made it Germany! :>)

Frank - I see that your Grundig 6001 is a nice, big radio from the good old days -- a "real" Grundig. It probably has no chips, so no possibility of "poltergeist" syndrome.

Kaito already had a bad reputation, and perhaps no radio should be purchased through Amazon at all. If you want Tecsun, the only reliable seller I know is Anon-Co; they test the radios before shipping and sent me a 390 with zero QC issues (for the 9 months I've had it at least.) For other brands I'd still use Universal.

Sorry for your bad luck, Frank. I've purchased a half-dozen or so radios from Ebay sellers in China or Hong Kong (including "liypn," "anon-co," and "tqchina") and have never had any issues. Maybe the Chinese sellers do a better job of inspecting items before they ship, or use better packaging.

I got mine from anon-co, and it has also been fine.

My 390 has worked fine for 10 months or so. I bought it through Amazon.
