I disagree with him about the FM performance. In my experience, it's substantially inferior to any of the Tecsun DSPs. That behavior was consistent with the DT-200VX, too. He must be testing the radio in an area with few nearby FM transmitters.

Mark, you beat me to the punch! The DT400W and the DT200VX are basically the same when it comes to AM and FM reception. What is lacking most is selectivity, to the extent that I sometimes have difficulty with semi-locals that are 0.2 MHz apart stepping on each other as I walk around. Worse yet, the AM filter is quite wide, so WJR's strong skywave from Detroit (@ 760 kHz) is subject to jet-engine noise from local WBBM's IBOC (@ 780). This is an ironic issue to have, given that the DT400W is great at ferreting out multiple NOAA weather radio signals that are tiny fractions of a MHz apart. In fact, it's far superior at this than it's predecessor was.
To me, as far as AM and FM are concerned, the DT400W is no better than a good Sony Walkman (and not as good on AM as some of them). It's claim to fame as far as I am concerned is excellent NOAA weather band capabilities.
Jay may well be in an area with fewer strong signals, but from a more typical suburban area, I'd tend to disagree with him on broadcast band performance. The Tecsun DSP models absolutely clobber the Sangean as far as reception goes. Even my new little $10 Tecsun F-110 is MUCH better at FM than the DT400W, as is the Insignia NS-HD001. And, there's no comparison between a DT400W and the likes of a PL310, PL380 or PL606.

I have to admit that this radio never made sense to me. It has a built in speaker, but it requires an earbud antenna. (Yes, I know it comes with a dummy wire antenna, but that's just one more thing to carry around with this unit.)

If anyone is interested in trying this radio - it's only $39 at Newegg.
