My iMac, purchased in 2008, has an Intel Core2 Duo and came with 2GB of 800 MHz DDR2 SCRAM. I'd like to be super super sure I've got the right match before I buy the RAM on Amazon or elsewhere.
Hate to do a bone marrow transplant with the wrong blood type, if you know what I'm saying.
All of the 2008 iMacs that use DDR2 can handle up to 6GB of RAM. Apple only lists 4 GB (2x2GB), but it's well documented across the Internet that it can handle 6. I would recommend Crucial.com memory, as it's as close to Apple OEM RAM as you'll ever get. I support Mac Labs at the university I work at, and we upgraded two labs worth of 20" iMacs to 6GB of Crucial RAM without issue.
Here are the Crucial part numbers:
QTY 1: CT25664AC800 (2GB DDR2 800 MHz)
QTY 1: CT51264AC800 (4GB DDR2 800 MHz)
Good luck!

I found the 2GB one on Amazon and it says it's for Notebooks. For iMacs also?

iMacs use the shorter SO-DIMMS like laptops do, yes.
