Here are some pictures of the CCRadio design to give you a better idea what the problem might be with your radio (the switch is not the problem but the plastic rod is), the pictures are numbered , please see them that way.

WOW! Thank you so much for this. Although an example of a bad "cost-savings" decision by Redsun, I guess it isnt a deal-breaker for me.
On the old "Ben Franklin Pro and Con chart", there are still more Pros than Cons for this radio.

Can somebody again explain the problem in clear terms, and tell me what the solution is?

The problem is in the AM/FM and AM/SW1/SW2/SW3 selector switches. They aren't actual rotary knobs, rather the knob moves the plastic piece you see to change a switch inside. I don't know that there is a solution, because it is how the radio was manufactured.

What would the cost have been to do this right? A quarter? They could have charged another dollar and everyoe would have been happy.

Rotary switches have to be soldered by hand and are much more expensive than circuit board mounted slide switches. Added cost would be about $30.00. The Grundig/Eton S-350 uses the same arrangement and it seems to hold up.
