I have to go back to 2003 to look at my last successful weight-loss run, going from 259-210 before I gradually tapered off, got back into my old habits and slowly crept up to 236 seven weeks ago.
My doctor at that time said I could go off statins if I got down to 200. So far I'm 222. That's 14 pounds lost in 7 weeks.
My "fat diet" is about 3,300 calories a day. My "skinny diet" is about 2,600.
To make that 700 calorie differential I'm not eating processed carbs or desserts. My wife is making organic dinners without bread or pasta so that helps.
I still eat a lot of carbs, mostly from the daily consumption of bananas, yams, and two, huge, pillow-sized Medjool dates every day at 2PM with a cup of plain yogurt.
The good news is that I'm employing Michael Pollan's eating instructions: Only eat real food from the far left and right of the grocery store (proteins, produce, and dairy). Nothing from the middle, which is all processed junk (and high profit and highly addictive).
If I'm going to get down to 200, I may have to lower the carbs. We'll see.
