Dan Patrick Says ESPN Wishes He Were Dead

 

 

Referred to with sarcastic rancor, the bitterness of a brutal divorce, Dan Patrick calls ESPN "the Mothership" and yesterday he said the Mothership wishes he were dead and the he would just go away. Why? In part, he said, because he represents creative freedom to the stable who currently work at ESPN. 

Patrick made these remarks after Bob Ley, I believe, was denied permission to go on Patrick's show to talk about Ley's infamous "bulging disc" report that was bleeped on the Mothership.

With satisfaction, Dan Patrick said he is torturing ESPN: "I know I'm in their head."

Same Chip Used in Sony Pocket Radios from $10-$160 Range?

The $10 S10MK2 is the overall best-performing pocket radio with a speaker that I've heard. Sounds much "bigger" than it is, and good to excellent reception on both bands.

Is the Sony SRF-T615 the Best Pocket Radio You Can Buy?

The Sony SRF-T615 isn't cheap (about $160 once you add shipping), but I did hear some good buzz about it a year ago. I haven't heard much about it since, but this is my fault since I don't check out ultra-light radio message boards. 

Very little info on this model as of today.

Don't Fiddle-Faddle with the RCA/GE SRIII When You Can Get a Sony ICF38 for Half the Cost

 

 You can spend between $55-70 on an RCA or GE SRII and worry about who made what and if you got a good one or not or you can play it safe and spend $25 on a Sony ICF38 with a 4 watt speaker. I'd go with the latter.

Carlos Takes a First Look at the GE Super Radio III: Or Is It the RCA Super Port?

I recently snagged a used SR III (now selling on Amazon as the RCA Super Portable Radio but Jerry warns this new RCA model is inferior to the early SRIII) for cheap on eBay and thought I'd post my initial reactions.

Is the selectivity of the GR III on AM supposed to be so poor? Even on the "normal" filter setting (as opposed to "wide"), the selectivity on my unit is very muddled. For instance, I did a head to head comparison with my mint Sony ICF-7600A last night, both running off of batteries, and the Sony matched the SR III in sensitivity (surprising perhaps, but the 7600A is a very sensitive portable) but completely outshined the SR III in its ability to ignore adjacent signals. I was under the impression that the SR III had a much more sophisticated filtering system than the Sony - maybe I've received a flawed example of the SR III?

By the way, if you are in the market for a quality analog multiband receiver, I'm not sure there's a better option than the ICF-7600A in its class. I also own a mint ICF-7601 (the successor of the 7600A), also analog whose band selection is slightly different in that it's microprocessor controlled. The later model is better (more sensitive) on SW, but the 7600A outshines it on AM and FM bands. The 7600A is also known for the quality of its speaker sound (3 tone settings as opposed to only 2 on later models in the 7600 series).

 

Controversy: Is the RCA SRIII an Inferior Clone of the GE SRIII?
