Matt

Electronnix is the name Kaito USA uses on Amazon.

I thought the PL310 was the best Tecsun for AM

Doug T.

I'm not so impressed by that price -- Kaito USA is just matching the E-Bay AnonCo price (with shipping) from Hong Kong.

Checking my records, I see I paid $103 (radio+shipping) back in November 2010. Accounting for the difference in exchange rates for (Chinese) Yuan, that is equivalent to $108 today. In other words, the price is basically the same as it was a year and a half ago.
If I look at the exchange rate with the Chinese Rembi Yuan

@karldotcom, there are almost as many opinions as to which radio is the "best" this or that as there are radio lovers. The PL-310 is an excellent "pocket" radio, very good AM-FM-SW reception, good speaker sound for its size, maybe my favorite small radio; the PL-660, which I don't own, is larger and offers a few additional features, namely the VHF air band, sync detection (good for locking in weak SW stations), SSB (necessary for listening to hams on the SW bands).

Doug, how is AM on the 660? I know Jay Allen wasn't that impressed with it.

Gary

Jeff - You're correct. Jay Allen said the PL-660 has "hissy" MW AM compared to some other radios its size (like the E5/G5 and DE1103). He said it was excellent for SW, and that the SSB modes and sync detector worked very well. He also liked the FM reception.

I have had nothing but bad AM sound on all the Degen 1103 and Eton E5's I've had. Muffled. A deal breaker. My guess is I'd prefer AM on the 660.

MW AM is not this radio's strongest point.

I got mine in April 2011 from e-Bay seller it.box for $110 total. It was manufactured in March 2011. My biggest complaint is the speaker sound...can't turn up the volume to a small room-filling level without the cabinet rattling and distorting the sound. Going to try insulating with foam. Not impressed with the Sync either, gives off a loud squeal most of the time. I prefer my PL-310 - better sensitivity and sound. it.box aka bigbargainonline is an excellent seller, returned a Degen DE1127 to him when it died after three months use and he sent it off to Tecsun for repair at no charge. I have since bought several radios from him, knowing that he provides good service.
