In a companion article that originally appeared around the same time as this one, I remember Gerald mentioned that some of the "store brand" radios from this period, such as Montgomery Ward Airline, Sears Silvertone, J.C. Penney Penncrest, are also of good to excellent quality. I have found this to be true. Two of my favorites are a Sears Craftsman 5-band that really pulls in weak signals on AM broadcast; and a Wards Airline that covers just about every band in common use when it was made: AM and FM broadcast, full shortwave, aircraft, police, weather, CB, etc. No dual conversion or SSB, but it does hear some international broadcasts.

Yet another reminder of how excellent radios were 35-40 years ago----how much imagination and pride went into the designs, materials, production----and how badly we've slipped since then. These old radios are worth seeking out.
