Looks nice, although a bit boring for me. I'm still hung up on chronographs, although am eying a Seiko "Black Monster." Also, most Invictas that I've purchased or under $100 end up feeling a bit "chincy" to me, except for the lovely Speedway 9223, which is one of my favorite "undersized" watches (if 40mm is undersized).

My two latest purchases (they just keep coming) are the Invicta 5124, a mid-sized Specialty Reserve with dark mother-of-pearl, and a Citizen Black Eagle - my first Citizen. It feels like a James Bond watch. Both are mid-sized and feel small compared to the chunkier watches I prefer, but both are gorgeous.

The two watches I want the most are an Invicta Capsule 6661 and a Specialty Reserve 5219 (the big blue one). Please post if you see either for under $300.

I recently bought an Orient Mako which is similar to the Invicta. Both have non-hacking, non-hand winding movements with screw down crowns which in my opinion makes them a real hassle to live with. I would much rather have a watch I can wind once in the morning (I don't really care if it is an automatic or not) and then forget about it until the next morning. The problem with a cheap automatic watch is that they don't come with a power reserve indicator so half the time I go to bed and the next morning find that the watch has stopped. Then I have to sit there and swing it around for a while and even then I don't know how much power it has. Will it stop again if I leave it in the locker room while I am working out? Who knows! If so you have to swing it around again.

Every time the watch goes dead you have to unscrew and then screw the crown back down. The threads are very fine and it is easy to strip them. Screw down crowns are supposed to be an advantage if you do a lot of diving. But face it, 99% of people never do serious diving with their watches. So for most people, a screw down crown just adds complexity and another point of failure.

A much better solution is to buy a Seiko 5 automatic with the 4r36 movement which is a hacking and handwinding movement. Many of them come with a non-screw down crown and still are water resistant to 100m.

Just wind the watch in the morning until you feel resistance and voilå, you fully a powered watch ready to go a whole day!

P.S. No, I don't want the clutter of a automatic watch winder in my bedroom

Dan, your 4r36 info led me to discover that Seiko is using that movement for a series of SRP watches, including new and bigger versions of the Monster. They're hard to find in terms of buying and are probably expensive. Yeoman's blog features them. He's from Singapore I believe.

Creation Watches have a bunch of them starting from $134.

My main point though is that automatic watches with screw down crowns, no power indicators and non-handwinding movements are a real pain to live with unless you live with unless you wear it constantly. Did you find that to be true when you had your Seiko Orange Monster?

herculodge

Yeah, I had an orange and black monster and it was a pain. I'll probably stay away from autos unless I get a crazy deal. That movement you mentioned is intriguing but repair is pricey on those.
