Coated in black with a bezel just slightly under 49mm, the Lum-Tec LZ7 Lumzilla is a stealthy watch with several coats of high-tech luminosity comparable to Luminox's.
Double thick sapphire crystal evidences this a serious watch. The company stands by it for a lifetime of battery switches with its Miyota 0520. If anyone knows the battery life (5 years I hope?), let me know. I doubt I'll send it across the States for a new battery, free or not.
The watch wears comfortably. I haven't tested the lume yet. I am eager to try it out tonight.
I was underwhelmed when I opened it from the box but as I wear it, it is growing on me.

Jeff: Something tells me that this will be your brightest watch ever. (Lum-Tec uses multiple layers of Super-Luminova on their watches.)

Holy spam, Batman.
Anyhow, a question about your posts. Are "First Look" posts always new watches that you just bought? I'm just curious about your buying habits - how often do you, in general, buy a new watch? From scanning your "Manly Watches" posts it seems that you buy a few watches a month and sell one or two as well. Is that about right? Eternal rotation!

I buy too many watches. I'm one of those watch freaks who can spend hours looking at different models. I try to sell some to make room for new ones.
This Lumzilla is not showy in person but very functional with great lume at night.

Yeah, I hear you - I can't tell you how many hours I've spent (wasted) scanning watches online. I tend to go in bits and spurts; hopefully I'll settle down soon and save my credit cards some grief.
Speaking of which, have you ever bought from bestinwatches.com? They've got a great deal on the Invicta F0007 for $260 - which might just tempt me away from chronographs - but for some reason I'm a bit hesitant about the site. I couldn't find anything negative online, though.

I never heard of that website. To play amateur shrink, maybe my watch obsession is an escape in this time of economic anxiety. And the irony: In a time of economic collapse, I seek refuge in luxury and superfluous timepieces.

But that analysis is probably wrong. It's simpler than that: The heart wants what the heart wants.
In a month I'll buy a Sangean WR-12 analog radio. I prefer digital with presets but I have to have THAT radio.

Yeah, I'm not exactly sure what the psychology of watch obsession is, although I've been thinking about it quite a bit. It is interesting to note that the vast majority of watch enthusiasts are men. I think there's a bit of toy fascination going on (at least for me!), although of a more refined type - not just the "ooh fun!" element but also aesthetic pleasure.
My wife doesn't get it. She loves her clothes and Frye boots and I try to tell her it is like that ("They're man accessories!") but she really can't tell the difference between any of my watches and has no interest in them herself. But I think like a nice handbag or pair of boots or piece of jewelry, a watch just feels good; the weight of it, the look of it - makes one feel more than they are, more on the earth.
