With a reputation for giving value and lume power along the lines of the Seiko line, Orient diver watches have had some appeal to me for some time, especially the 46mm bezel versions such as the Orient M-Force ELO3003B.
I find all the M-Force models very appealing with their sapphire crystal, power reserve, and hand-winding option.
Perhaps the best value, the one I'd get, is the M-Force SEL03001B on Amazon for $283. Observe that 10 Amazon reviewers have given this watch 5 stars. That's rather amazing. The only criticism is that the bracelet could be more high-end. Perhaps models costing closer to $400 will have better finished bracelets.

Jeff - How accurate are your automatic watches? One reviewer of the Orient SEL03001B says his is slow 15 seconds per day (that would be annoying); another guy says his is fast 20 seconds per week (not too bad). Quartz watches are usually within 30 seconds per month.

I find that if I wear them a lot, they run 3 or 4 minutes fast after a couple of months. No biggie to me.

Orient has been on my radar - they seem like slightly more upscale Seikos.

For some reason----maybe just the fact that I've been familiar with Seiko since childhood----I "trust" Seiko more than Orient.

Orient is wholly owned by Seiko, and they often use Seiko movements in better value models. For example, if you're lusting after a sweet Seiko mechanical chronograph Orient provide a cheaper alternative. All the quartz watches i've ever used were rated at +/- 15 seconds per month. Even low end Seikos are sometimes reported as having good accuracy, around +/- 3 to 5 seconds per day - far better than the manufacturer states.
